Small-farm friendly organic certification alternative

Personal — Posted by: www.microecofarming.com @ 04/14 2006, 18:02

Certified Naturally Grown is a new alternative to USDA certified organic. It follows the same strict rules as USDA certified organic, requires physical inspections, and publicly lists all certified farms' inspections. However, it is a non-profit organization, farmers may donate anything they can, but are not required to pay the high fees, and it is geared towards beyond organic standards, such as those who sell locally and who grow a diversity of crops. The paperwork allows sustainable farmers to grow beyond organic for many crops on one small farm, instead of the USDA certified paperwork which favors megafarms that grow only one crop on thousands of acres. www.naturallygrown.org.
