Ag-tourism benefits to farms and earth

Personal — Posted by: www.microecofarming.com @ 02/20 2006, 15:07

The next title underway: Bringing Travelers and Community to the Farm: How your farm, garden business or sustainability group can benefit from the new ag-tourism and local sustainable food revival ((c) 2006 Barbara Berst Adams, being published by New World Publishing) is revealing an incredible tapestry being woven across the planet. As I discover and interview farmers in North America and around the world, their insights on how to succeed at this amaze me. Success doesn't always come from what one might think, but more from a shift in how one interacts with customers. Please share if you've had important experiences with this, either as a farmer or a farm visitor.

Micro eco-farms never run out of the next new piece of paradise to bring into the world. Today's report is a heads up on the ancient Mayan and rainforest fruits, herbs, and vegetables that are going to be available to North America starting this summer and next. Our friends at Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds have returned from their journeys to south Mexico and Central America with seeds of intriguing and delicious new/ancient crops available at the local markets. They'll be trialed and the best will be available to gardeners and market gardeners soon.

Bringing customers to your micro eco-farm

Personal — Posted by: www.microecofarming.com @ 02/02 2006, 16:05

On Lummi Island, Washington, local micro eco-farms (from apiaries to native backyard nurseries) have joined in with the local artists to bring awareness to their home businesses. Lummi is off the beaten path, a home for many artists who enjoy their solitude. But twice a year, they collaborate on an artists' studio open house. Farmers are now on this list as a choice in the self-guided tour, bringing people to the island and to see the products sold, who otherwise would not have made the trip.

Organic continues to expand

Personal — Posted by: www.microecofarming.com @ 02/01 2006, 01:48

The Organic Center for Education and Promotion recently generated a record-breaking $457,000+ to research the many benefits of organic. There are many restrictions on making health claims with foods, herbs and medicines. Farmers will now be able to quote them as authorities on the scientifically proven benefits of products grown organically.
