Seeds of Change (and perhaps others) offers an early watermelon voted the sweetest watermelon in 2005, with very few seeds. Called Sweet Dakota Rose, 30 years ago it was crossed by farmer David Podoll between a large southern variety and a small early Canadian variety. After years of stabilization, it is now open-pollinated.

Mini eco-farms across the nation

Personal — Posted by: www.microecofarming.com @ 01/09 2006, 18:18

Some grow herbs for a local teahouse, others produce speciality handspun wool from a backyard flock of mini Shetland sheep. Eco-farms are being supported more and more by the USA and world, and many of them are home businesses, meaningful and family-friendly, on a fraction to a few acres (or even leased next to a dayspa, camp or school). The Local Harvest Link will lead USA citizens to hundreds of examples. Support one, or become one! www.localharvest.org
